Google Business Profile Support for Plumbers

When a pipe bursts or a boiler stops, most people search on their phone and call one of the first plumbers they see on the map. If your Google Business Profile is suspended, unverified or set up incorrectly, those calls can go elsewhere. We help plumbers understand what has gone wrong and what to do next.

  • Suspension and verification reviews
  • Correct service-area setup
  • Guidance for emergency call-out trades

Why it matters

Why your profile matters when someone has a leak

Illustrative. Outcomes are decided by Google.

Plumbing searches are often urgent. A customer with water coming through the ceiling rarely reads several websites. They look at the map results, check the reviews and phone number, and call. For many plumbers, the Google Business Profile is the first and sometimes only impression a new customer gets, so a profile that disappears or shows the wrong details can quietly reduce enquiries without any obvious warning.

Plumbers also sit in a category Google watches closely, because some unscrupulous operators have used fake listings to capture emergency calls. Genuine businesses can get caught up in that scrutiny. Many plumbers work from home, use a van rather than a shop, and cover several towns, which means the profile needs to be set up as a service-area business with the address hidden. Small errors here can lead to suspension or repeated verification requests.

Common issues

Common profile problems for plumbers

Suspension after an edit

Changing your business name, category, address or service area can trigger a review. Plumbing profiles are sometimes suspended at this point, particularly if the details look inconsistent with other information about the business.

Home address showing publicly

Many sole trader plumbers work from home. If the address is visible on the profile instead of hidden, this may conflict with Google's guidelines and can be a reason for enforcement action.

Advanced or video verification

Plumbing is one of the categories where Google may ask for more thorough verification, such as a video showing your van, tools and proof you manage the business.

Name with extra keywords

Adding words like 'Emergency 24hr Plumber' plus a town to your business name, when that is not your real trading name, is against the guidelines and can lead to suspension.

Getting the setup right

Service-area setup for plumbers

Most plumbers visit customers at their homes or businesses and do not receive customers at their own address. In that case, Google's guidelines say the profile should be set up as a service-area business, with the address hidden and a service area added. The service area should reflect where you genuinely travel, and Google suggests it should not generally extend more than about two hours' drive from where you are based.

If you do run a trade counter or showroom that is staffed during opening hours and has permanent signage, it may be appropriate to show that address as well as a service area. A registered office, accountant's address or virtual office is not suitable as a location. We can review your current setup against the guidelines and explain which option fits how your business actually operates.

Verification and appeals

Evidence that may help plumbers

Evidence should be genuine, current and consistent with your profile. What is relevant depends on the case.

  • Gas Safe registration details, where you carry out gas work
  • Van signage showing your business name and branding
  • Recent invoices or job sheets under the business name
  • Business bank statement or utility bill matching your details
  • Public liability insurance certificate in the business name
  • Companies House record or HMRC registration for the business

Why was my plumbing profile suspended when I have done nothing wrong?

Suspensions often follow a change to key details, or an automated check that finds something inconsistent, such as a visible home address or a name that does not match your signage and paperwork. It does not always mean you broke a rule deliberately. Reviewing the profile carefully usually points to the likely cause, which helps you decide what to correct before appealing.

Can I show my home address on my plumbing profile?

If customers do not visit you there, Google's guidelines say you should hide the address and set a service area instead. Showing a home address that is not open to customers can cause problems. If you have a genuine staffed premises with signage that customers visit, showing that address may be appropriate.

Can I call my business 'Emergency Plumber London' on Google?

Only if that is genuinely your registered or trading name, used consistently on your van, website and paperwork. Adding service or location keywords that are not part of your real name is against the guidelines and is a common reason for suspension. Emergency availability is better shown through accurate opening hours and your description.

What does a verification video for a plumber usually involve?

Google may ask you to record a continuous video showing where you are, evidence that the business exists, such as branded vehicles or equipment, and proof you manage it, such as access to business tools or documents. Requirements vary, so read the instructions shown in your account. We can help you plan what to show so the video is clear.
